Rating software for ISO and AAIS commercial lines

ISO & AAIS rating software for commercial lines

Configure and test ISO & AAIS programs yourself.

SelectRate is a rating platform for commercial insurance. Four ISO lines and ten AAIS products rate on it, on governed bureau content SelectRate maintains. You do not start from an empty screen: every line arrives as a Standard Program you can inspect and test, and your work is configuring what makes your program different. Test before release, go live on one effective date, and rate every transaction on the policy term.

What SelectRate does

SelectRate turns bureau rating content into programs you can run.

The bureau content is the part nobody should be re-keying. ISO and AAIS rules, rates and loss costs are maintained by SelectRate, so the base your programs stand on moves without anyone on your side doing anything. What makes your program yours is the layer above that: the multipliers your carrier approved, the states where one number differs from the rest, your minimums, your fees, your eligibility. That layer is configuration, and configuration is something you can change on a Tuesday.

That split is the whole design. It is why launching a program is configuration work rather than a development project, and it is why a new bureau edition does not mean rebuilding the carrier and program configuration you already established. That carries forward. Testing the new edition against your own book stays part of a controlled release.

Configure, test, publish

A new program is three moves, not a project plan, and each one happens in the platform rather than in a support queue. A first program starts from the Standard Program; a change to a live one starts from what is currently published.

Configure

You start from the currently published configuration rather than from an empty form. Change only what should differ: the carrier multipliers first, then what is specific to your program. Set a program default and override the single state that is not like the others, and the states you did not touch stay exactly as published.

Creating a change never disturbs what is live. The published configuration stays in force for policies dated before the new version, which means you can work on next quarter's rates during business hours without anybody's quote changing underneath them.

Test

Test every change against real risks in Program Studio and read the worksheet behind each result before it goes anywhere. Nothing ships because a release note said it was ready.

Publish

A published version takes effect on its effective date, in Underwriter Workbench and on the Rating API at once, and never changes afterwards. Prior versions stay in force for prior dates.

Step 1Configure

Deviations, rules, fees and eligibility set in Program Studio.

Step 2Test

Test risks rated against the draft version in Program Studio.

Step 3Publish

Live on its effective date, in Workbench and the Rating API at once.

Start from the standard

The usual complaint about a configurable rating platform is that configurable means unfinished. You buy the engine, then you build every program in it from an empty screen, and the first quote is months away.

That is not how a line arrives here. Every organization on SelectRate gets a Standard Program for each governed product: a program sitting directly on the published bureau foundation, ready on day one to inspect and to test.

It also tells you the truth about where you stand, state by state. Which states are in force, which are ready to rate now, and which are waiting on a company value, naming the exact value: a loss cost multiplier, a company factor, an edition adoption date. Nothing is guessed on your behalf and nothing is hidden, which is what makes a launch date a plan rather than a hope.

You run Program Test on it and rate the sample transactions it carries. Then you create your own program from it, and the only work left is the work that is actually yours.

How Standard Programs and versions work

Governed bureau foundation

Published ISO and AAIS content, effective dated and maintained by SelectRate. Read only, and never a copy per customer.

Standard Program

One per organization per product. Supported states, what is ready, what needs a company value, Program Test and sample transactions.

Your carrier program

Created from the standard, carrying your multipliers, adoption dates, rules and authorized deviations, on your own versions.

Rated across the whole policy term

The quote is the start of the rating, not the end of it.

Bind creates the policy term. Endorsements, cancellations, reinstatements and renewals are then rated from the policy's current accepted state, on the rating versions locked when the term began, and each one is added to the policy's transaction ledger with its own calculation and worksheet.

New businessBind

Creates the policy term and the first entry in its ledger.

Mid-termEndorse

Additional or return premium per coverage component, pro rata.

Mid-termCancel

Preview return and earned premium, then confirm.

Mid-termReinstate

An exact reversal, on the cancellation date.

Next termRenew

Seeded from the current state, under a new policy number.

SelectRate rates and records every transaction on the policy term. Billing, invoicing, commissions and accounting stay in your systems.

How policy lifecycle rating works

SelectDocsFrom rating to policy documents

Take a rated and bound policy through to a complete policy document package. SelectDocs determines the forms that apply, fills them from existing policy data, asks only for what is missing and generates the package.

SelectRateRate

The premium, with its worksheet.

SelectRateBind

The policy term and its transactions.

SelectDocsComplete

Only the information the forms still need.

SelectDocsPolicy package

One complete package, ready to issue.

The bureau document foundation is maintained for you. Your program configures only its own carrier specific requirements. Document programs are released per line. How SelectDocs works

ISO and AAIS lines, one configuration model

Every line launches the same way, because the model underneath is the same: bureau content below, your configuration above. That is why adding a line is a configuration exercise rather than a project.

What differs is the shape of the rating, and the shape is what each line's page is about.

LineWhat the rating resolves onStatus
ISO
ISO General LiabilityClassification and exposure at a location. Class, territory and increased limit factors resolved from filed content.Available
ISO Commercial PropertyThe location and the building. Construction, protection class and territory, per place rather than per activity.Available
ISO BusinessownersThe eligible package. Property and liability components priced together under one eligibility gate.Available
ISO Commercial AutoThe vehicle. Class, radius, garaging territory, with liability limits across the schedule.Available
AAIS
AAIS Commercial Output ProgramOne program across property, business income, extra expense, equipment breakdown, spoilage and crime.Available
Nine further AAIS productsBuilders Risk, Contractors Equipment, Installation Floater, Equipment Dealers, Motor Truck Cargo, Fine Arts Floater, Miscellaneous Floaters, Warehouse Legal Liability and Accounts Receivable, each on its own filed methodology.Available

Every line arrives as a Standard Program, so you can see which states are ready to rate and which are waiting on a company value before you plan a launch. State availability on request.

Every rating value carries its provenance

A premium you cannot explain is a premium you cannot defend. SelectRate records how every number was produced, so a carrier, a regulator or a reinsurer gets a document, not a reconstruction.

Explainable premium

Every step of the calculation is visible, at the precision the engine used.

Traceable to its source

Each value points to the bureau filing, the carrier configuration or the program configuration that supplied it.

Reproducible years later

A quote re-rates on the version it was written under, not on today's.

Immutable record

The worksheet is captured at rating time and never changes, for the quote and every policy transaction.

A.R.I.A.
A.R.I.A.Augmented Rating Intelligence Advisor

The intelligence and orchestration layer around SelectRate. Give A.R.I.A. the program you want to launch. It works your requirements against the governed Standard Program, names what already matches and what needs a company decision, proposes the configuration and reads the governed test results back. Your team approves and publishes.

One endpoint, everyone you distribute to

Your program is not only something you rate against. It is something you hand out.

One Rating API endpoint serves the rating channels you authorize. Your own underwriters in Workbench, the MGAs who write under you, and the connected applications you issue API credentials to all rate the version you released. There are no spreadsheets in the field and no stale rates at the edge of the channel.

Entitlement is granted, never requested. Each API client has its own credential and is granted the specific programs it may rate. Scopes decide which operations a credential can call. Grants decide which programs. There is no wildcard at request time, and a client never sees another client's quotes or policies. Every call carries a correlation id, and every rating run is retained as it was executed.

The same API carries the policy lifecycle: bind, endorsement, cancellation, reinstatement, renewal and policy search.

The API resolves the same effective-dated configuration and runs the same engine as Workbench. Identical inputs, program and effective date produce an identical premium and an identical worksheet, whichever channel asked.

Who it is for

SelectRate is built for organizations that carry rating responsibility rather than just consume a rate.

MGAs

Writing across a panel, who need one submission rated against every carrier program it qualifies for, and need to show each carrier its own position was applied.

Carriers

Who own the filed position and need one released version reaching every delegated writer, with any historical rate reproducible on demand.

Wholesalers

Distributing to people who are not their own staff, who need entitlement control at the edge of the channel. That page also covers program administrators, whose rating and distribution problem has the same shape.

Moving an existing program

Programs are configuration rather than custom code, which is why moving one is a mapping exercise rather than a rebuild, and why you can run both systems side by side until the numbers agree.

We re-rate a sample of your bound book on both systems and hand you the variance report before you commit to anything. Your team re-rates live submissions against the new program until that report satisfies them. Nothing moves before that.

Common questions

Is SelectRate an ISO, Verisk or AAIS product?

No. SelectRate is built and operated by Selectsys Tech LLC and is a licensed user of ISO content. ISO is a registered trademark of Insurance Services Office, Inc. AAIS is a trademark of American Association of Insurance Services, Inc. SelectRate is not affiliated with or endorsed by AAIS.

Do we have to build every program from scratch?

No. Every organization has a Standard Program for each governed product, sitting on the published bureau content. You inspect it, see which states are ready and which need a company value, test it, rate its sample transactions, and create your own program from it. You configure what makes your program different, not the foundation underneath it.

Do we configure our own pricing, or does SelectRate do it?

You do. Carrier multipliers, state overrides, minimums, fees and program rules are configured in Program Studio by your team. No support ticket and no code release sits between a pricing decision and a tested version.

What happens when a bureau edition changes?

The base layer moves underneath your configuration. Your multipliers and rules carry forward rather than being re-entered, so there is nothing to rebuild. Testing the new edition against your own book stays part of a controlled release.

Can we rate as of a past date?

Yes. Effective date is the input that resolves everything: the bureau edition, the base version and any carrier or program override in force for that date. Prior versions stay callable.

Is rating available over an API?

Yes. The Rating API is a channel onto the same engine your underwriters use, with the same programs and the same worksheets. See the API documentation.

Does SelectRate handle endorsements and renewals?

Yes. Endorsement, cancellation, reinstatement and renewal are rated in SelectRate from the policy's current accepted state, on the rating versions locked at the term's effective date. Every accepted transaction is kept, unchangeable, in the policy's transaction ledger. Cancellation is pro rata. See policy lifecycle rating.

Is SelectRate a policy administration system?

No. SelectRate rates and records policy transactions. It holds the bound policy term, its current rated state and a ledger of every transaction, each with its calculation and worksheet. It is not a policy administration or accounting system: billing, invoicing, commissions and accounting stay in the systems you already run.

Can SelectRate produce the policy documents?

SelectRate does not produce documents. SelectDocs, a separate product in the same family, generates the policy document package from the same rating and policy data. Document programs are released per line, so ask which of your programs are covered.

Bring a program. We will configure it with you on the call.

Pick one you would like to move, a state, a class or a whole program, and we will configure it live with you on the call.
